Toward EXcellence, Access, and Success (TEXAS) Grant
Once you receive an initial year TEXAS Grant, you can be considered for the grant in subsequent academic years, provided you meet renewal requirements and have not reached a program limit. The Office of Financial Aid reviews students’ renewal eligibility at the end of every academic year and program limits every semester.
Renewal Requirements
To be eligible for the TEXAS Grant during your second year in the program, you must:
- Be enrolled for at least nine credit hours during the term.
- Meet UT Dallas’ satisfactory academic progress (SAP) requirements.
- Demonstrate financial need.
To be eligible for the TEXAS Grant after your second year in the program, you must:
- Be enrolled for at least nine credit hours during the term.
- Please notify your financial aid counselor if you are graduating soon and your degree plan requires you to be registered for less than nine credit hours.
- Meet UT Dallas’ satisfactory academic progress (SAP) requirements.
- Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5.
- Complete at least 24 credit hours each academic year.
- Incompletes (I), failing grades (F), and academic/non-academic withdrawals (W, WP, WF) do not count. Coursework repeated and passed within the same academic year counts only once.
- Credit hours completed during summer count.
- Please notify your financial aid counselor if you have completed transfer credit at another institution during the academic year as this credit may count.
- Demonstrate financial need.
If you lose eligibility for the TEXAS Grant, it is possible to regain eligibility for a future term.
Program Limits
Your eligibility for the TEXAS Grant ends when you graduate with a bachelor’s degree or when you reach one of the following program limits, whichever comes first:

Comet Promise Grant

- Be enrolled for at least nine credit hours during the term.
- Please notify your financial aid counselor if you are graduating soon and your degree plan requires you to be registered for less than nine credit hours.
- Meet UT Dallas’ satisfactory academic progress (SAP) requirements.
- Complete at least 24 credit hours each academic year.
- Incompletes (I), failing grades (F), and academic/non-academic withdrawals (W, WP, WF) do not count. Coursework repeated and passed within the same academic year counts only once.
- Credit hours completed during summer count.
- Please notify your financial aid counselor if you have completed transfer credit at another institution during the academic year as this credit may count.

- Have a total family income of $100,000 or less.
If you lose eligibility for the Comet Promise Grant, it is possible to regain eligibility for a future term.

Your eligibility for the Comet Promise Grant ends when you graduate with a bachelor’s degree or when you reach one of the following program limits, whichever comes first:

Renewable Scholarships at UT Dallas
The University of Texas at Dallas offers several scholarships that provide funding throughout the student’s undergraduate career as long as the student continues to meet renewal requirements. See the hyperlinks below for more information on how to maintain eligibility for each scholarship program.
Academic Excellence Scholarship Program
Eugene McDermott Scholars Program
Texas Leadership Scholars Program
Students receiving a Texas Leadership Scholars Program award must meet the following requirements to remain eligible to participate in the program and to receive a housing and food scholarship award.
To maintain eligibility in the Texas Leadership Scholars Program (TLSP), you must:
- Have received a TLSP award in 2023-2024.
- Be enrolled in at least 12 credit hours each semester.
- Remain eligible for a TEXAS Grant award (review the TEXAS Grant renewal requirements at the top of this page).
- Have completed or be on target to complete the requirements of the program including:
- Be actively engaged in a Living Learning Community or participate in a student success initiative (e.g., Undergraduate Success Scholars, Nebula Scholars, First Generation Student Programs, Comet Scholars Program).
- Participating in campus and community engagement activities through your LLC and/or student success initiative, including mentoring, research and internship opportunities; networking with professionals; and leadership development activities.
- Apply to participate in TLSP statewide activities including:
- Statewide cohort learning institutes or seminars.
- Summer programming such as leadership conferences, study abroad, or internships.
Students will receive a scholarship award for up to 8 long semesters (i.e., not including summer) or through graduation, whichever occurs first unless the student is granted a hardship exemption. Students cannot accrue more than a cumulative total of 150 credit hours (excluding those earned in high school), including transferred hours.
Your success is important to us. If you are unable to meet these requirements or have extenuating circumstances (i.e., you become ill, caring for a sick family member, academic challenges), please speak to your student success advisor or the Office of Financial Aid as soon as possible.
