2024-2025 FAFSA News

On January 30, 2024 the US Department of Education announced a change in the timeline for the 2024-2025 FAFSA process. The Department of Education will be updating numbers in the FAFSA formula to account for inflation. This correction will result in students getting more federal aid; however, it also means that the results of the 2024-2025 FAFSAs completed by students will not be available to schools until at least the middle of March 2024. This is approximately 6 weeks later than expected and will delay our 2024-2025 financial aid offers to new students.

Our priority deadline has been extended to May 1, 2024. If you have not yet completed the 2024-2025 FAFSA, please do so as soon as possible. If you have completed the 2024-2025 FAFSA already, you can read about the post-processing experience for students in the announcement from the Department of Education.

We recognize this is challenging for students and families. The Office of Financial Aid is doing everything we can to provide financial aid offers to new students as soon as possible after we receive the 2024-2025 FAFSA results. If you have any questions please contact the Office of Financial Aid, or your admissions counselor.

On March 25th, the Department of Education announced that ability for students to make update and corrections to their FAFSA forms will be available in the first half of April. An exact date was not provided.

During the week of April 1st, UT Dallas began to receive FAFSA data. Communications are now being sent to new students whose FAFSAs we have received. The most common error we are seeing is that a student or parent signature is missing from the FAFSA. When the original form was submitted, many students/parents did not see or have the option to sign. This is a known issue that can be resolved when applicants are able to make corrections. In addition, there is an identified group of FAFSAs that have incorrect tax information due to an import issue. The Department of Education will be correcting this information. There is nothing the applicant needs to do at this time. Our office will notify the students whose applications are in this group. We will wait to receive corrected transactions before determining aid eligibility. Financial aid offers have not yet been scheduled.

On April 12, the Department of Education indicated that applicants may now make corrections to their FAFSAs. Some issues with the correction process have been identified. Detailed information is available in the 2024-2025 FAFSA Issue Alerts (see link under Additional Resources below).
