Exemption for Ex-Prisoners of War
The purpose of this program is to provide free tuition and required fees for up to 120 semester credit hours and to provide an exemption from the payment of housing and food if the student resides on campus or, if the student lives off campus, to provide a reasonable stipend to cover such costs. Additionally, the program provides a scholarship to cover the costs of books and other required educational materials.
In order to be eligible for the exemption, you must:
- Be a resident of Texas, and you must have been a resident of Texas at the time of your original entry into the United States armed forces.
- Have been first classified as a prisoner of war by the Department of Defense on or after Jan. 1, 1999.
- Be enrolled at least 12 semester credit hours.
